What is Hanukkah all about? According to First Macabees, it is really about the rise of the Macabees to take back their temple from the Syrian Greek Empire. It is clear that the holiday of Hanukkah is meant to celebrate a miracle. But which one? The miracle of the oil or the miracle of the Jewish forces and winning the battle over the more powerful Syrian Greek armies? What we do know, is that our Saviour was conceived during this season, He is the power and triumph over evil, He is the Light of the World and He is our redemption.
